I wrote the paper below on the following prompt for a first-semester doctoral class at St. John’s University in January 2018. My professor for EDU 3281 was Dr. John Beach, who passed away in October of that year.
PROMPT: “You have been asked to address a meeting of school administrators and community politicians on the subject of needed reforms of literacy curricula and instruction to meet Common Core mandates. Provide an overview of how your audience should view educational research as a source to inform such work. Address questions such as ‘Does the research in literacy education have all the answers we need to revise our practices, and if not, why?'”
